![]() ![]() You would need a leisure battery set up IMHO I doubt if the battery on most cars would even take the power surge. I can't see that the jump lead option will have many takers. That's what most motorhome, caravan and boat owners would do. I think that anyone who had one would have cabled it in. Not really the convenience and freedom that they advertise. To use the Wavebox on 12 volt really means lifting the bonnet of the car and connecting it directly to the battery terminals and running the engine. ( More customer reviews)I have owned my Wavebox since it first became available late 2008.As a gadget 'enthusiast' I'm very tempted by this but I do wonder if it's worthwhile. I love this thing but the cigarette lighter cable melted a few weeks later. So, we got in touch with customer service and they said they'd send a new cable right away. It's March 2009 (5 months later) and I still have not received the cable. I have been using the battery clamp in the mean time, with faster heating times so it's been great. I use the microwave every weekday for lunch. Just last week, as my food was cooking, smoke began bellowing out of the cooling fans and it smelled like a circuit board was melting. The unit still works but the amount of smoke it belches out is alarming. Customer service has been contacted once again. This time they have responded better and say a brand new unit is on the way. I hope it's true, they really seem like they want to stand behind their product and it seems so well built to me. Hopefully mine was just a fluke since I can't seem to find any information online of other people's units failing. Update: after waiting and complaining via email we got a response saying how sorry they are and it's just Tim Frank and his wife trying to make this product happen. They are standing behind the product and really wanting to make things right. I received my brand new wavebox and it works great. It actually works better now that the cooking "rack" is porcelain, allowing a more uniform heating. As a side note, I took my first unit apart and was impressed with the construction of the unit. Hoping that the new unit will provide me with many more hot lunches. I'm trying to change my rating to a higher one but apparently cannot with Amazon.Ĭlick Here to see more reviews about: WaveBox Original Portable AC/DC MicrowaveĪttention tailgaters, boaters, outdoor adventurers, and road trippers-theres no need to rough it when the WaveBox Original portable AC/DC microwave comes along. Measuring a compact 15 inches wide by 10 inches deep by 11 inches high and weighing just 14 pounds, this go-anywhere unit provides both efficient heating and convenient cooling service for the comforts of home anywhere. To microwave, simply choose from one of the three power options: AC with a standard electrical outlet, a DC direct clip to a 12-volt car or boat battery, or a DC connection to a 12-volt vehicle power outlet rated at 20 amps or greater. With AC or DC direct, the microwave performs as powerfully as many non-portable microwaves with the DC power outlet theres a little less power, but its still great for reheating meals, warming coffee, or heating convenience foods.Įasy to use, the WaveBox has three preset cook buttons and generous cooking space that accommodates reheatable containers, cups and mugs. It also comes with a soft-sided cooler bag that fits inside the WaveBox and keeps items cool for up to five hours. Not the type to stop when conditions get a little rough? Neither is the WaveBox. ![]()
